Title explains it for the most part but, to elaborate a little:
I'm in norcal/the bay area. Hundred percent positive she's a black widow 'cause I've seen a million of 'em growing up here. She's in the corner of our front doorway, outside the door, but pretty close to the doorknob. Maybe the size of a dime. I live with my mom and stepdad and neither my stepdad or I are bothered by her, and we have a dog but he's old and half blind and way too short to notice or antagonize her. I don't think she poses any harm, but my mom is starting to get too anxious with her there to open the door - she's maybe four inches from the doorknob.
Basically I just want to know if it's safe to use the ol' jar and postcard method to move her away from the doorway. I'm usually the one to handle the spider removal from the house since my stepdad always wants to kill them and I hate that, so I generally just scoop them up in a glass or on a paper and move them outside before he sees them. I haven't, however, caught/moved a medically significant spider before. Is it safe for me to do? Should I be worried about an egg sac? I haven't seen one, but I could snap a photo in the morning and post in the comments and ask if y'all see one - the wall behind her is white so I can't tell. Will she be super aggressive or are they more of a play dead kinda spider? Where would be a good place to put her?
I've basically been advocating for this lil lady's life for a couple months, since both my parents keep wanting to squish her :( I want that to be the absolute last resort. I jokingly mentioned wanting to keep her as a pet but my mom about had a heart attack at the possibility of a medically significant spider living in her house.
Any advice on relocating her? Thanks y'all.
