So I just found out that I completely missed SGDQ. I went to the website thinking I could find out what was coming up in a couple of weeks, and lo and behold SGDQ (S for Summer) started in May? And was done June 3rd? I will totally admit to not being up on twitter or the twitch channel these past few weeks and maybe they made a big deal out of this, but I feel like a huge change, leading to missing out on actual summer vacation audiences and other issues, should have been more widely shared or repeatedly emphasized. I’m sorry if I’m making a big deal of something well known and understood and this is more r/OutOfTheLoop, but I took a look and couldn’t find anything much about the change. Was it venue issues? Charity scheduling?
Also, I don’t want to take away from what sounds like was a successful event, raising over $2M and and that had, from what I did find, another collection of great runs. But again, this is a SummerTM event that started in May, and my summer vibes have just taken a major hit knowing I missed a whole GDQ event. First time in a decade.
Edit: Thanks for the replies folks. Seems venue booking was a likely cause, and they may be giving us dates soon for next SGDQ. I’ll take a year’s notice, and subbing to r/SpeedRun will help too.
Same, I'm used to this being a big event in my August calendar, definitely booked a trip out of town and missed all of the last day
