How to setup comfortable OTK to run long sessions ?

I am trying to find the best way to setup Over The Knee spanking for my sub. I have tried a few times and it was relatively uncomfortable probably due to seat height challenges.
I have seen experienced doms looking around the room to identify the correct place to administer spanking otk and they seem to have an eye for the right height.
My sub and I are the same height. Any basics you could share ?
