Fleet vs Fleet battle? Tournament?
Post Body

rdav's new script has got me all geared up to make a well-rounded fleet. And then of course it occurred to me, pitting it against another fleet would be just plain badass. But how do you decide what is a fair arrangement? What can people's computers even handle?

Is there a commonly accepted criteria for what is a "frigate" and what is a "battleship" in this game? And how do you draw the line? mass?

This should be discussed. I'd really like some structure to work to while updating my ships with this script.. And also to ponder how I would balance said fleet. And then draw up tournament bracket in a month or two after participants have had time to prepare.

Obviously the simplest mechanic to use is the block limits, which could easily cap the weapons and complexity of the fleet as a whole. But that really doesn't have much resolution for trying to balance smaller battles. In most RTS cost is the main limiter which would force you to choose between 1 cruiser or 3 frigates, but cost is difficult to apply in a creative mode battle arrangement.
