Hi, that title is straight out of a kindergartners diary, but I want to know what my prospects are of becoming an astronaut. I would love to work on the ISS. If anybody has any source-backed feedback, experience in this field or in a similar field, please help me understand how I should go about it.
About myself:
I'm an undergraduate student, pursuing a degree in Computer Science. According to the NASA requirements, I'm looking at at least a Master's in comp sci. The website also states that
- Have at least two years of related professional experience obtained after degree completion or at least 1,000 hours pilot-in-command time on jet aircraft.
Does anybody know what counts as professional experience? What kind of jobs should I be looking for?
I'm averagely fit, 5'7, 150 lbs, no allergies to any kind of food, but I do have red-green color blindness, does that affect my chances of being selected? Or does it only prevent me from taking up certain positions aboard the ISS? What should my preparation be for NASA's physical test?
And finally, I am 22 years old right now. Given that I am not a US citizen, I know that I have to go down the path of moving to the states from Canada, and going through the entire process, which may take somewhere in the ballpark of at least 5-8 years. By then I would be around 30 years old give or take. I want to know if some dreams should just be left as dreams or do I potentially have a shot, even if I'm competing against some of the best individuals in the world?
