How can the Mars orbiters change their orbit to hide behind Mars?

I understand that the orbiters do have thrusters allowing them to move. However isn't the fuel in these satellites extremely limited? It would seem to me that an awful lot of fuel would be needed to change their orbit enough to hide on the back side of the planet.
