On Saturday, October 14, 2023, Texas will have a Annular Solar eclipse, when the moon almost, but not quite, covers up the face of the sun and we see a Ring of Fire!
Assuming the weather holds and the skies clear, I will be doing a livestream of the event from near the centerline in southern Texas, using a white-light telescope and an 80mm Lunt Ha double-stacked telescope.
In Texas, the eclipse starts between 10:15am CDT in West Texas and the Panhandle, and about 10:27am in Houston and South Padre Island.
Starting at the Texas border near Hobbs, New Mexico, annularity along the centerline begins at 11:41am, and is over just after 11:16am.
At Midland/Odessa, annularity starts at 11:43am, and ends at 11:48am.
A few minutes later, San Antonio sees annularity starts just before 11:52am, and is over at 11:56am.
The last city in the United States to see annularity, before the the shadow of the moon moves off to Central and South America, is Corpus Christi on the Gulf Coast. Starting just before 11:56am and ending almost a minute after noon, downtown Corpus Christi will see just a little over five minutes of annularity!
