Syncing MKII to Arturia Microfreak.

I followed the instructions, but when I try to hear the synth make sounds I get nothing. Am I missing a setting or do I need to have a “y” splitter for my headphones in order to hear both instruments?
Edit: when I plug my headphones into either instruments phone jack I can hear just fine, but it’s like I have to choose one or the other. What am I doing wrong?
