I'm a copywriter and content writer, and while a lot of what I do qualifies as sales copy, other stuff falls under what you would term "content marketing." That link gives you a rundown of what that is and what it means.
I have literally written things that you might term "Sponsored Content" as part of my job. I was excited about the ads storyline.
It was spot on and ripe for satire, but I feel like they tried to do too much at once, and nothing about it really ended up feeling all that satisfying.
Today my SO is binge watching Season 19 while I work. (We've been doing a full South Park binge watch for a while now, starting at the beginning and moving forward.)
It just feels so weirdly disjointed. You have the PC Principal stuff, the ads thing, the SoDaSoPa/ShiTpaTown stuff... it's like they could have taken each of those and done anything from a single episode to a 3-parter a la Black Friday.
I fucking love South Park, and honestly, they've had a "hit and miss" vibe for the most part since at least season 12 or so. But when they hit, my god do they hit hard. I'm just not a fan of the season arcs.
I probably shouldn't be posting this, because I know everyone's sick of "blah blah blah seasons 19-20 are subpar." But I love that they addressed the things online advertising is doing now, especially when it comes to mobile users.
I'd like to see them pursue this more in the future and do some more with it. You'd be surprised how much stuff you read online that actually is low-key trying to sell you something. I'd love to see them do more send-ups of online advertising, online publishing, and all of that massive bullshit clusterfuck.
And yes, I know I'm an ad.
