I have been cooking with an Anova sous vide cooker for about a year and a half and the unit just failed on me. After some lengthy discussions with Anova's customer support via email and phone, it looks like I will be purchasing a new unit, but Anova won't get my money.
Based on reviews that I've read, it looks like the Joule is probably my best option, but I'm interested in the opinion of those who have tried other options. The only two reasons I haven't pulled the trigger on the Joule so far is the fact that I don't have any way to control it without another device in the kitchen (e.g. phone, tablet) and I use a modified cooler with a cutout in the lid to hold the water bath, which will make the magnetic base ineffective.
I could further modify the cooler and pop a magnet in the base to hold the Joule in place, or I could buy a different clamp but neither of those options are ideal.
What cooker would you buy, if yours broke tomorrow?
