spotify keeps pausing if i have multipoint enabled on my sony earbuds

Anybody else experiencing this? I have Sony LinkBuds S connected to MacBook Air and Pixel 3 on multipoint. I think Spotify gets confused when multipoint is enabled.

I try to press play on my phone and the music gets paused in 2 seconds. I try on my MacBook and it also gets paused.

When I disconnect from multipoint (in other words, i only have one device connected to my earbuds), then this problem does not happen. So, this seems like an issue with the multipoint rather than a Spotify software issue.

Any tips?
