Is uncompressed streaming a pipe dream?
Post Body

I live in a relatively small two-bedroom apartment, but it has a long, skinny layout. It's also in downtown San Francisco, which means wifi interference ahoy.

For simplicity, I'll use the numbers 1 through 5 for the 5 rooms in my house. 1 is by the street; 5 is the back. The wifi router is in 4.

When I first got Sonos (with Boost), I realized that the Sonos signal was considerably better than my own wifi. The wifi barely reached room 1 at all, so I got a Bridge and connected my computer in room 1 to it. Works perfectly.

Then I got cocky and decided to move my turntable with Play 5 to room 1. Now, if I try to do uncompressed audio, it cuts out all the time. I've tried all three channels, without much difference among them.

I suppose it's not that important to me to be able to stream uncompressed. But it also feels a little bit silly to listen to vinyl compressed. Like, what's the point?

Also, if you use "automatic," shouldn't it always switch to uncompressed if you're just playing it on the Play 5? That would seem obvious, but it only seems to switch about half of the time.

Thanks.
