Sonoff Basic can't get into pairing mode

Hey all, so I used a few sonoff switches and I know all the obvious pairing issues but in this case, I can't get to the pairing mode on the device which means I didn't get to the stage where I would worry about my router or app.
Basically, long pressing the button gets me to a few seconds of continuous green light that ends by getting back to the 2 seconds off short blinks that indicating no connection to router.. so I really can't get to pairing mode :(
Any ideas?
