I rescued a street dog from Dominican who unknowingly had health issues. Is asking for help with her bills okay?

TLDR: Spent over $12k in 12 months on my unwell dog and cherry on top is I just lost my job (should be employed soon hopefully).

Since getting my dog she has had a number of issues quickly arise: Ehrlicia, severe skin allergies, kidney disease, peridontal disease… She has a poor prognosis - could be as bad as her kidney failing in 6 months but it’s impossible to say but her costs will definitely get worse :( She’s only 3ish years old and it’s been heartbreaking to see her go through so many stressful vet visits while never fully regaining her health. I really thought I did everything right - I had some savings for “just in case”, high paying job, had her examined by a vet before agreeing to adopt, got pet insurance. Well those savings went pretty fast and my earnings in 2022 were lower than expected, and now I am without a job. The vet had only noted some tartar and normal itchiness (making dental work and allergies a pre-existing condition and not covered by vet insurance). The kidney disease is also considered related to the ehrlicia and therefore is pre-existing. To top it all off she swallowed a bunch of rib bones a month back and that was another 2k down the hole (blessed tho the insurance actually paid for something and they covered the other $2k).

I guess I feel some shame and embarasment asking people for money. I took on this dog as my responsibility but is there a point at which it’s okay to ask for help? There are obviously so many people out there needing help more than me. I was in a high paying job when I got her but now I’ll be looking for a new line of work since getting fired could cut my earnings in half.

Anyways, sorry if that was long-winded. I would love to hear reasons why/why not to make a gofundme and any tips for doing so would be much appreciated. Thanks!
