Hello everyone!
The pandemic has been a bit hard financially for me, but luckily I got a job at an airline and plane tickets are no longer a problem. I have 20 days off in June and I want to go far from here (I live in the Dominican Republic). My budget is not much, but I've learned how to do it in previous trips.
I'm planning to go with around US$600.00 excluding flights. I will try to volunteer somewhere for a couple of days (need to check workaway or something like this), and probably couchsurf another couple.
My main issue is the destination. I have thought of two options so far:
Turkey - Israel - Egypt.
A friend told me that Turkey is almost as expensive as France, which is... very expensive, and that Israel is even more, but that Egypt is super budget friendly. I don't know much about the Middle East but I'm open to suggestions.
Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam - Singapore (I have friends I can stay with in Singapore). Here the problem is that Thailand still has many restrictions related to covid so I think it's better to switch it up, maybe for Sri Lanka? But then Sri Lanka is kind of far from the rest? (don't judge me too hard but I want to try and hang out with elephants, maybe volunteer for a couple of days).
My purpose of traveling is to experience other cultures. I'm not very interested in museums and/or spending hours in the main monuments. I enjoy adventures and meeting people, nightlife, food and involving myself in local activities during the day.
TL/DR: Trying to decide a route for a 20 days Africa or Asia trip on a budget. Thoughts routes: Turkey - Israel - Egypt or Thailand/Sri Lanka - Cambodia - Vietnam - Singapore.
Thanks in advance!
