Any tips on how to make solo international travel doable for me or at least less stressful? Recently diagnosed autistic last year at the age of 32.
I really want to travel to SE Asia but I have no one that I could have as a travel companion & I would have to do it solo. I have traveled overseas once (ATL to Scotland), ten years ago, but it was a college trip and I was with lots of people that I felt safe around & everything was essentially fool proof. I honestly don’t remember enough about the airports. We had a group & I just followed what they did.
The thought of getting to the airport (I’ve never even used Uber before), navigating the airport (where to go, all the people & things there to process, chaos…sensory overload), anxiety and worry during the flight, navigating the airport AGAIN (stopovers and the destination), and then where to go from the airport is all just so much. Having to coordinate so much. I need a support person but I don’t have one. Most of my issues are pre flight and post flight & I get overwhelmed just thinking about how hard it will be to do it solo. Heaven forbid I have a medical emergency mid flight. I have been prone to passing out in public spaces when under high stress and overstimulation for long periods of time.
To most people, this probably isn’t an issue at all; but to me, it’s a big issue. This depresses TF outta me sometimes. I think I could be overthinking this but then I quickly think about all of the variables & get nervous again.
Any genuine advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, idk if this makes a difference but even though I’m not handicapped in the traditional sense, I am on disability.
EDIT: thanks so much everyone for the input and comments! I appreciate it all!
