Has anyone gone from Lima to Machu Picchu in a weekend or day?

Going to Lima for the weekend and I’m wondering if I can get to Machu Picchu and back to Lima over the course of the weekend? I’ve been reading you can explore Lima in about Two days, so I was thinking come in on a Thursday night to Lima, leave Friday night on a flight to Cusco, explore Machu Picchu in a day on Saturday and leave for Lima on Sunday and chill there till I leave Tuesday! Is this a manageable plan? Any recommendations or short comings with the flight/bus from Lima to Cusco/Machu Picchu I should know about?
