I just started solo travelling and Agoda was good.... at first. By my third hotel there was a issue and I found out how truly crappy the company is. I checked into the hotel and it was absolutely nothing like described. The amenities were not as conveyed and just in general the room was not up to the standard at which I paid. It was dirty and in general just a really unsavory place. This does not even include the fact that someone tried to enter my room on two separate occasions within the first few hours. It felt just very unsafe.
I requested a refund and to be checked out imminently. The front desk did not understand me on account on the language barrier so I was sure Agoda would definitely help. I was very much wrong. Not only were they of little help, the agents really didn't even care. The property was a obvious front/scam and all Agoda could do was NEGOTATE my refund from the hotel. They themselves could not do anything. This is when I realized Agado has zero safety nets in place if a hotel scams you, because according to them they are not liable for anything after the booking including the safety or even the accuracy of the properties on their site.
This is my experience first bad experience with the site, but it was a real eyeopener.
