i was using one of those smart soldering irons with small display on the handle. got sick of it because of tip to handle distance that made precise soldering a nightmare.
i ordered silicone cable, handle, board, connectors and made my own "station". instead of aluminum case, i used, as you can see, plastic box. tip is grounded, i get about 0.5 volts on it. works much better than i expected. i use dc power brick (20v, 3 something amps) to run the station. tilt sensor works, standby works. it cost me about 35 bucks for everything. i'll add on/off button and get myself a bigger box as this one gives me anxiety how close are all the connections
