So my previous el cheapo soldering station decided to just up and die (plugged in, turned it as normal and nada, checked the plug, checked the cable for continuity, checked the power switch and all good so something somewhere bit the dust)
Looking to get back into electronics (dabbled a few years ago) and developed an interest in mechanical keyboards.
My top end in price would ~£180 (the price a hakko 888 goes for in the UK - though Amazon can supply me the usa model for £125 but the issue is its 120V only and unless i buy a 240-110V converter its a dead end as uk mains voltage is 230~240ish)
Looked at various lower price options online but many reference either poor build quality, tips that glow cherry red or they stop working after a short period.
Its giving me a headache so I could REALLY use some advice please?
I'd like something that I can get at least replacement tips for easily, something that can be DIY repaired is also a serious plus (but with everything something that costs 5 times as much thats repairable has to bring something else bar repairability to justify its cost) - I used to be an electrician and I've installed various bits of electronic kit, built, repaired and troubleshooted PCs for years, diagnosed cars etc so I'm pretty handy.
So suggestions please? (and anything particularly to avoid also)
Thanks in advance
