I’m thinking of installing solar panels on a few apartment buildings owned by my family.
In looking at the savings for a solar system and they all seem to be over 25 years, I guess which is the life of the system. However, most roofs in Canada need to be replaced in or around a 10 year mark, flat roofs probably sooner and metal roofs probably later.
If the roof needs to be replaced then it’s like installing the solar system twice in that 25 year period. No? Shingles can’t be replaced when they’re covered by solar panels.
Has anyone lived though this? What are the relative savings and costs over a 25 year period when you factor in doing a roof about every 10 years?
