I'm thinking of getting a few hundred watts of solar panels to put in my backyard and using something like a diy bluetti to supplement mains power. Ideally, I'm not looking to do anything permanent - nothing that would require a permit.
My thought would be to build a solar storage unit with a hundred or so AH (LiFePo4) and use a microcontroller to switch between mains and solar based on solar output & battery charge. From what I've seen this typically doesn't require a permit. I would not backfeed any power to the grid.
I'm not looking to save money, my off-peak rates are just under $.18 and on-peak rates are just over $.19. I'd like to do this more as a learning experience and help offset my on-peak grid use. It would be nice to save some money though to offset the cost.
Any tips, things i should know?
