Make tagging in Explorer easier?

I am adding tags to photos using Windows Explorers built-in tagging. This is quite cumbersome as it's not well integrated into windows. I have set up my Explorer window in a way to make it more accessible but I'd love to find some app to make it easy.
I have tried the usual recommendations (Tabbles, TagSpaces, Tagging for Windows, ... and a bunch of Explorer alternatives) but none of them meet my needs:
- uses file metadata tags (same as in Windows Explorer)
- does not create extra or rename existing files in the same directories
- works on network drives mapped via SMB
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
