Can social work be dangerous?
Post Body

Hi! I am thinking of going back to school to become a social worker. It’s the only job I could really imagine being fulfilling for me and I want to make a difference.

I was doing some reading and noticed there are some dangers, and I also have a friend who is a social worker who told me that she had a stalker once. She also told me one of her clients was hitting on her and being inappropriate towards her.

Has anybody had similar experiences? How do you handle them? I would hope there are protections in place for social workers in these types of situations.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

You are taught how to de-escalate via evidence based interventions, you report to proper authorities, and you may have to terminate seeing a client if things get really ugly.
