I'd love to do work with indigenous populations, since my plans in the future involve traveling to Latin America to work with indigenous populations who suffer from environmental destruction or land-loss.
This seems like a more macro-related niche to get into considering the cultural/ community dimensions of working with indigenous populations. However, I'm also very adamant about practicing psychotherapy.
Having said that, what forms can social work take when working with Indigenous communities, specifically when it comes to psychotherapy? What are some cultural considerations that manifest here, and how do non-indigenous social workers contribute to these communities? I am a US citizen of Latino origin, with some indigenous blood, though I don't really consider that much since I have never been a part of those communities. Thanks.
