Hey! I am having a big confusion about empathy and the limits thereto after a few awkward convos with others. My understanding has always been that everyone, from the highest to the lowest of social standing, all races, all faces, all classes, all masses, etc. But for some reason i am told that I cannot empathize for certain people. For example, the reaction to the Queen's passing feels appropriate in that imperialism is wrong and they have every right to celebrate the death of a symbol of racism and terror, so morally I am with them in part, but at the same time to celebrate the death of a stranger (no matter who they are) also feels like a denial of someone's intrinsic humanity and room for growth and change. Can someone help me understand where the cutoffs are for who we can and cannot empathize with?
