Why do Reddit users hate welfare recipients as if they have committed some unspeakable crime?

Post Body

I mean people on welfare, section 8 or the homeless are literally one of the most despised groups on Reddit. You admit that you’ve used food stamps like once or twice in a non-political post and people jump on you with “welfare queen” and “leech” comments. Being an occasional welfare recipient is like the worst sin even worse than being a rapist or pedo. They’re not “gaming the system”, they’re not doing anything harmful or illegal. And this is in non-political subreddits mind you.

it's a puritan belief

puritans believed that god would reward good people, so people who are well off in life were thought to be virtuous

If you're rich, it's because you're a good person because why would god let someone bad get a bunch of wealth? If you're poor, it's because you're a bad person, why would god let a good person go needy?

it's how elon musk can spur fighting in the congo for cheap batteries but still get fanboys jerking themselves to death over every single word he says
