Looking over all the comments and threads about the large teams wanting to create a super league with big clubs only, and the people disagreeing with them saying it would ruin the sport and basically lock in the status quo, I had an idea.

First, this is how I believe the CEO of a big non-English team is thinking today.

Everything is great, I'm getting the top two on my league, going deep into the Champions League keeping up the reputation of my team. Sponsorships are great, steadily growing and TV money is fine..... but not EPL good.

The real worry is not about next year, but 10-20 years down the line, if the EPL TV money keeps growing at this rate all non-English teams will be uncompetitive.

This is very different from the domination of Italian teams in the 90's because I believe that many of them were financed with debt or investors pumping money in but the second that bubble popped the league was pretty much wrecked as a dominant force. The TV revenue is sustainable and more importantly, self-reinforcing.

The problem here is as the EPL gets larger and more profitable it can attract the players that people want to see which will make the TV revenues go up which will enable them to buy more of the players people want to see..... and on and on.

What I am thinking, and I don't believe this is an original thought, but you take your coefficients and start a new league that operates above all leagues in Europe. Keep it at 20 teams and make it so the bottom 3-5 teams are automatically relegated and the winner of those countries leagues get promoted up.

If your country has only one spot, that team has to play in some sort of qualification tournament for their Champions League spot. Same thing if multiple countries are competing for that spot.

Also perhaps make the top 4 immune to having to be challenged for their spot?
