It's not that my partner is unsupportive, they are the reason I opened my eyes to quit drinking. But now it's very obvious our relationship hinged on the numbness of emotions that drinking provided, and now I am extremely unhappy in our relationship. I am bringing up couples therapy as a last ditch effort.
Has anyone else had experience with this and what was the outcome?
I got sober with my ex, thinking my drinking was the cause of a lot of our issues, but as I got deeper into my recovery I realized it wasn’t the drinking… and we just weren’t in alignment… and I left. Now I’m in partnership with a man who exceeds all my dreams and is supportive and compassionate and loving and I couldn’t be more grateful. If any part of you says this isn’t the relationship… leave.
