Advice for formulating a soap for sensitive skin - is borage oil too smelly and is this recipe too soft?
Post Body

Hi soapers! I'm trying to create a soap for a friend who has very sensitive skin and various sensory sensitivities. I think I want to add borage oil and sweet almond oil in addition to my standard oils and a lower percentage of coconut oil to minimize the harshness and dehydrating qualities.

The percentages I currently have are below:

Palm oil 33% Coconut oil 15% Olive oil pomace 25% Borage oil 11% Sweet almond oil 11% Castor oil 5%

I ran this through soap calc and it's the upper end of the recommended softness - 70 exactly. I've not made a bar of soap this soft before, so I assume this means I'll give it a bit more time before attempting to unmold and give it a longer cure. Is there anything else I should know?

I was also looking at some of the reviews for borage oil and a couple reviews mentioned that it smells bad and that the smell came through in the final soap. My friend is very sensitive to smell and I was planning to add a very small amount of EO (about 1 oz for a 2 pound batch) for a very mild fragrance. If the borage oil smells too badly I'm afraid she won't be able to use it. Does anyone have experience using borage oil? Does it actually smell that bad? Should I decrease the borage and increase the sweet almond or just cut the borage out altogether?

Any other advice very much appreciated!
