Can snails form social attachements?

Post Body

I know the topic is widely debated, after all snails are so different from us it's hard to tell these sorts of things. I ask the question because I have two snails that are housed together and they always eat from the same dish.

These snails are quite large, so I have two separate food dishes for them. I never place them onto these dishes, I just place them in the tank in the evening, spray the tank, and leave them be. Without fail, they will always end up eating from the same plate. This remains true even if one of the snails are closer to one dish than the other. I find it interesting because they end up cramped on one dish, sharing one portion of food even though choosing an individual dish would mean more space and more food.

I know this is more of an opinion question because there's no definite scientific backing, but I'm just interested in hearing the opinions of other snail owners :)
