Are white-lipped grove snails and brown-lipped grove snails separate species?

Post Body

I was under the knowledge they were; Cepaea hortensis being the former and Cepaea nemoralis. But, I'm not really sure about that anymore.

I took in some white-lipped snails earlier this year and few months later I noticed none of them had white lips anymore and instead had brown lips. After they had been quarantined long enough they joined my other grove snails (all brown-lipped) and, as snails do, they've been having a good amount of eggs.

I kept a clutch and there were a mix of babies who came out brown-lipped and others white-lipped. After all of the rounds of culling, none of the babies had brown lips. However, today, I noticed one of them developed a brown lip. Idk, I just find it so interesting and peculiar and I was wondering if anybody had any clarifying information
