I know this question probably gets asked a lot and I'm sorry but I couldn't find anything useful using the reddit search function (every thread asking this question is from like 2015). I currently own the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros and want to get into the competitive scene. I've been going to small locals in my middle of nowhere town but want to start traveling to bigger events. I want to buy the Wii U version because I think it would be a lot better just for the sake of practice (getting more comfortable using the GC controller, better competition on For Glory, tourney mode, etc.). People keep telling me that I should just "wait for the switch port" and then just get the switch but the switch has been out for almost month now and it's looking like a Smash Wii U port isn't going to be in the 2017 game lineup.
Plus, what if the port ends up adding no new characters and no GCC support and the community ends up sticking with the WiiU version anyway? Then I would have waited for nothing. The thing is, I've been holding off on getting the Wii U in hopes of a Switch port for several months now and I am getting kinda tired of waiting. Am I just being impatient? What do you guys think, how much longer should I wait? Or should I just give in now and buy the WiiU/Switch? Obviously I would buy two or three more games than just Smash no matter which console I get, but Smash would be my main reason for buying either.
At this point I am starting to feel like just buying Melee would be a safer investment since I already own a Wii and a couple GC controllers, but I am absolutely terrible at Melee. Playing Melee feels weird to me since I am so used to how Smash 4 feels, and joining a scene where a bunch of people have like 10 years of experience over me feels intimidating. What do you guys think?
