So I've been developing this discussion because I'm kinda confused on the tier list system for characters in Smash 4 and the "potential" of characters in Smash 4.
I understand what a Tier System is, how it let's the community know which characters honestly have the easiest time in getting the W. Not easiest to master, but who have a kit that is a combination of great neutral options, mix up potentials, and early kill moves without customs. Correct me if I'm wrong in anything I say please.
Diddy, Sheik, Rosalina, ZZS, and a few others are considered "Top Tier" who place well with Top Players utilizing them. But in the recent months of watching videos of favorite Smash personality the word "Potential" keeps coming up, two immediate examples I can think of is a Lil Mac video talking of his great frame data and Trela's Mii Swordsmans tourney. In both examples they are saying the same thing, a great player needs to come along and open the "potential" of these "Low Tiers" that no one has seen yet, seeing as Smash 4 is still in it's infancy as a meta. An argument for the Trela incident was that he was simply leaps and bounds better than his competition in general, so he could win easier with a low tier character.
When you look at Non-American players though, they will say that they don't believe in Tiers, Swedish and Japanese players play who they like and not worry about which character has the best "data". Even Zero says that more exploration needs to be given to characters like Peach and Villager.
So why do we have Tiers for a game that has yet to see it's fullest potential? Speaking to the American players, why are we not giving these Low Tiers the chance to be more? Does Smash 4 have a balance that might allow all characters a chance at greatest, if wielded by a superior player?
