Buying rabbits to breed for meat in the UK?
Post Body

My wife and I have been looking to keep a few meat rabbits in the back of the garden. It seems that New Zealands, Californians, or Carolinas are considered the better breeds to keep for meat. We've got some nice big pens and hutches set up, even got a "rabbit mower".

The sticking point is that we can't find any rabbits! We live in the North West and I can't find anything within 100 miles or so that isn't some sort of dwarf breed or pet lop also in the "tiny" category. I certainly can't find any of the advised breeds or even a British Giant. No luck with French Beveren or Silverfox either.

Can anyone direct me towards where I might be able to buy a few of these sorts of rabbits? Or other breeds that might be suitable? Half tempted to cage trap a few wild ones at this rate!
