Moving into a bit of a new industry that has a much stronger concern with traceability than I’m used to, and am having trouble figuring out how to think of the process.
Here’s the basic dilemma. We receive product in bulk bags, which are each assigned a lot code when we receive them, and then repackage it into a bunch of smaller bags based on the previous days orders.
We’ve got a basic system setup to tell us how many of the original bags we’ll to use, how many new bags we’ll need to pack with which product, etc.
This is all done to order, so we aren’t creating finished batches in advance that can be easily assigned.
The missing link is how do we tell our packing team which lot to use to pack each smaller bag for each order.
I assume this isn’t that complicated, but I’m not sure the terminology I need to be searching for. Is this a basic ERP capability or do I specifically need WMS software or something else?
