So I’m 23 and finishing up an AA in Accounting, and I’m trying to skip the 9 to 5. I have money ($30,000) saved up to invest in a multi-unit rental property, and I have a part- time job where I make about $18,000 after taxes. But it’s verrrry part-time. I have a lot of time on my hands, so a long-time friend of mine who has a very entrepreneurial spirit, like myself, wants to start a business with me. Sounds great, and we have a couple different ideas, but I’m The one with capital ($10,000 that is separate from my savings and savings for rental property). I’m willing to take a risk, but I’d obviously be more invested than he (no pun intended). So what’s the best way to approach this? Hire him as an employee and have to pay him? Forego the venture for now until he has capital? Write up some sort of contract entitling me to lions share of profits down the road?
