Hey guys, Just a quick update. I was here asking questions a few days ago about using the drop shipping model for my first business as a way to gain experience, and hopefully make (some) money while finishing up my freshman year in college.
My idea is something that I and my family have personally been interested in, is niche, and I feel like there is hole in the market for it. I've decided to sell birthstones, and put a lot of educational material about them on my website as well. I think this is a good direction and is a niche market, with the potential to spill outwards as the jewelry becomes more popular.
My question is whether or not I should buy bulk amounts of lose gems and sell those by themselves. People would buy these just to get their birthstones and do whatever they want with them, such as custom design.
If i decided to go that route, I was wondering if i should also drop ship other companies jewelry, or just stick to one method of selling. I know that being more specific generates more conversions, but I'm not quite sure which idea would be more profitable.
I have some pretty good ideas about marketing to college students over social media, and I think the jewelry would be much better for this. Also any other advice would be greatly appreciated! This is going to be my first business endeavor and I'm really excited. I don't expect to be super successful but I'm hoping the experience will be invaluable. Thanks guys.
tl;dr: Starting a birthstone business and not sure if I should buy and sell loose stones, or sell other companies jewelry. Looking for general advice as well! Thanks
