Do you regret starting a full time job right after graduating?

Post Body

Do you wish you took a longer break? How did you maintain a work-life balance? Tips on budgeting and saving up? Advice on choosing which job to accept? Red flags to look out for during interviews/workplace?

Finished my final clinical placement last Friday and was offered a full time job the week after. They want me to start at 7th January as part of an orientation week with other new graduates.

However, I’m also starting an SSRI and mood stabiliser right before Christmas so I’ll be going through the trial and error adjustment period at this time :/ I do have CBT therapist and a GP I keep regular contact with. But they’re both on leave until the 4th!

I haven’t accepted the job yet but it’s a really good opportunity. Varied caseload (albeit mostly disability), salaried wth travel money included and professional development opportunities paid for. I’m just scared of burning out.

I was offered a hospital job during my final clinical placement. I told them I would happily take it if I was allowed to have 6 weeks off first to go on what I consider to be a once-in-a-lifetime cross country road trip. I have never regretted it for a second. I worked all during grad school and lived as cheaply as I could, so I had a bit of a buffer to get by on with what was left from my loans. I figured I’d never get a chance to have that time to myself again in that way. For me, giving myself that recharge period allowed me to start my first job in a much healthier place mentally.
