Hey /r/SLP!
I'm a private practice SLP in Oregon. I work with a company out of India called Avaz, which is Hindi for "Voice." We make a traditional AAC tool, but for some time we've been working to create an iOS app that would give kids a way to visualize the core structure of language. Understanding of syntax is critical to developmental literacy, and our app not only always produces an errorless model of syntax but prompts them to expand their use of language with built-in prompting. Our founder Ajit Narayanan actually gave a TED talk about it a bit ago, which you can find here.
We now have a working prototype of the app and I was hoping to enlist the reddit community here to test it. Honestly, our angle is that we're looking for a lot of feedback as to whether it would be helpful, with which students you would use it, and what we're missing in terms of features. I feel like folks here would be tech-savvy and open to new ideas.
Anyway - if you're interested message me here or email [email protected]. Then we can send you a beta invitation that you can experiment with as long as you please. This app will eventually be priced at ~$50 so it's quite a bargain at $0.
I'm also happy to answer any questions about AAC development, private practice, and anything else that comes to mind.
This is a bit off topic, but I'm on the NSSLHA board at PSU and this seems like something our department would love to hear about. We are always looking for interesting folks in the field to come give lectures, talk with students, etc. Would you ever consider it?
