So I've been using a 13 inch Miken Gold Series PRO130-BG Black/Gold glove for my first ever slo-pitch softball season and I was having problems with it. I have been told I have unusually small hands for a dude (several people have told me this) which should have been an indicator of getting a smaller glove being the better idea. I unfortunately didn't know any better and simply went with a 13 incher since that's the most common size used for slo-pitch softball.
I recently bought a 12.5 inch Easton Prime Slowpitch PSP125 Single Post Web and it feels soooo much better than the 13 inch Miken. I have more control over the Easton and it feels so much lighter and faster than the Miken. I still have to break it in properly and use it in a real game but I can already tell I will have a better time with the Easton.
I've been doing some research on glove use including on how to break it in, which size to use, how to place your fingers in the stalls, etc. and I have some questions for you guys:
1.) Do you think moving from a 13 inch glove to a 12.5 inch glove is the right call? Should I go as low as 12.25 or 12?
(NOTE: I usually play infield but sometimes my team captain puts me in the outfield)
2.) Where do you place your fingers in the glove? Do you guys think the two fingers in the pinky stall is the best for slo-pitch? Do you leave only your index finger out? Or do you just place your whole hand traditionally in with each finger in their respective stall?
(NOTE: I don't have much of a baseball/softball background so I pretty much tried to stuff my fingers into each respective stall as deep as I can and have the glove fill my entire hand. I've noticed a lot of baseball/softball players leave pretty much the bottom of their palm closest to the wrist exposed. Because of my lack of experience, I find the exposed palm and two fingers in the pinky thing kinda weird and feel like my glove will slip out at any moment 😅 but I'm open to trying it out and practicing with it if it will make my fielding better. Also when I fill all the Easton finger stalls traditionally, my pinky really starts to hurt, probably because I'm stretching it too much and found the two fingers in the pinky thing really helps in negating that.)
