New to Slow Cooking

Hi, It was suggested I buy a slow cooker. Iām looking at a 7 quart for the leftovers, the ceramic insert vs aluminum and is programmable.
Is 7 quart too big for a single person? Is there a big difference between programming and manual settings? Or ceramic vs aluminum?
The 6 quart is the same brand and programmable with an aluminum insert.
