The S610 is always going to draw the inevitable comparison to the Ncase M1 so this review is centered towards that assumption.
The first great thing about the S610 is that it is made of steel. The steel is slightly heavier but the weight is completely negligible when adding in all the weight of the other components. The steel is overwhelmingly more durable than the Aluminum of the M1. The M1 is borderline fragile and cannot withstand the random drop, hit, or other medium collision event, nevermind a full on heavy collision event.
The steel PSU mount in the S610 doesn't feel solid. It IS solid. With four points of attachment there is no flexing of the PSU bracket in any direction. The M1 bracket flexes. A lot. The S610 is ever so slightly larger than the M1 making it easier to route things internally and mount fans. The top handle kit on the S610 is very solid and sturdy making the case that much easier to transport for LAN party or guerilla computing related events.
This is planet earth of course, and nothing is perfect. Here are my criticisms of the S610.
- I would like a square feet option. Round feet are played out yo.
- I would like USB3 "C" connectors on the top. Is this 2010?
- I would like more color options and some Hexagonal vent holes. Everybody already has round holes for christ sake.
- It doesn't have a hard disk light, or reset button, but I am not overly heartbroken about either of those.
- dream up some way to use that massive real estate of the front panel, even if its self promotion. I would even prefer a gigantic "sliger" embossed in vertical letters down the front to an empty boring front panel.
