We are officially using extinction method to sleep train starting.... now! 5 months, 20 lbs.
This week, LO decided to fall asleep on his own at night, sometimes 5 minutes of fussing, but he conks out after 30 min. Sleeps 10 pm-6 am, quick feeding, and sleeps till 8 am.
Naps. Are. Insane.
He naps for 30 minutes, every 1.5 hours, or longer if I follow pediatrician’s advice to extend his wake period to coax longer naps. I’ve tried putting him down 10-30 minutes later, which usually means he eats again, and then there the spit up... and then he’ll nap 40 minutes if I’m lucky, 10 minutes if I’m not. It can take a lot of walking and bouncing and singing and shushing to calm him and get him sleepy, and then he wakes up when he touches the mattress. Shushing and rocking and singing in the crib are successful maybe 50% of the time?
So starting tomorrow I’ll be singing a short song, putting him down, and walking away.
What are people’s experiences with extinction method and nap training???
Thank you!
