6 month old - night is going okay, naptime training is a disaster
Post Body

Since around the 4 month checkup, we've been getting our daughter at least two naps a day, but it's usually sleeping on one of us (whether just held or in a Baby Bjorn), in the car seat, or occasionally in the stroller. At night, she would always need to nurse to sleep and would wake up every few hours. At the 6 month checkup the pediatrician suggested the middle of the night feedings were more about comfort than hunger and that we should try to break that association, as well as having to sleep on somebody.

My wife has been reading The Sleep Lady's "Good Night Sleep Tight" and putting her down drowsy at night seems to be working -- she'll roll around a bit but fall asleep, and has been sleeping in much longer chunks at night.

Daytime naps, on the other hand, are not going well. When our daughter obviously looks tired, I try walking her a bit to get her calm and then put her down, but the act of setting her down immediately brings her back to full alert and screaming. The book recommends trying the nap for an hour, and then doing a big dramatic wakeup if it doesn't work and getting an "emergency nap" however possible later -- what this is amounting to for the last three days is an hour of screaming, followed by extra overtired fussiness, followed by passing out the next time she nurses.

No amount of crying seems to be helping for naptime, so...any other suggestions?
