Best way to start?

I downloaded requiem the other night and created a character (one handed archery illusion sneak with light armour) and I literally can barely do anything. I'm having problems killing more than wolf and even mudcrabs in some situations :/ I was just wondering if I'm doing something wrong? And also if anyone could recommend easier classes so I can get used to requiem before I jump in and try to stealth it.
