This is both a request and a discussion about these types of mods. I almost wanted to just make an appreciation post for this mod by JK but I also want more from people that actually understand how to create mods (I've thought about learning to mod and might in the future when some free time comes available).
Basically, I think it's a perfect type of mod I love. It expands upon a faction/group in the vanilla game that is introduced but unjoinable. This is important because I partly create a new character based which faction/profession they will pursue and I get to create my Paladin type characters for this mod.
Secondly, it's not an overly huge mod that takes an insane amount of time to create (correct me if I'm wrong). There's a progression within quest/faction (moreso than some vanilla factions you can join). It creates a "home base" for those types of characters and adds a radiant system to do after you're done building and recruiting. Plus, it's a mod that you can slot in your game and do throughout your playthrough. And it feels like a very immersive, yet polished mod. And it can be built upon easily for more content down the road too.
Essentially, I'm asking how hard would it be to create a similar mod from other mod authors.
Find a faction in the game, find a vanilla building to build around or create a new location in Skyrim for the base, build it up over time a little like Hearthfire, add some simple quests (retrieve a "weapon/item" important for the faction", clear out x location for faction), recruit members for the faction that will patrol/live at said base, and add a radiant defense system for the base from the faction's enemies.
You can essentially do this for some factions in the game, joinable or no. Like, for example, building a Stormcloak "forward base", recruit members for the base, carry out missions for the base in that hold, and occasional Imperial forces will attack and attempt to seize said forward base from you while you defend.
I kinda want a mod like that for most other factions too, the Alik'r, Forsworn, Silver hand, etc. Maybe for some these, instead of recruiting Followers, you create a few NPCs that have to recruited a la the Dawnguard. But you still could still use vanilla voices or VASynth or anything simple (though custom voiced/personalized members would be cool too!).
So how hard is to create such mods? Any volunteers? If not, I guess this is just an appreciation post thenπ
