Removing Masters in Mods

I've been playing around with the merging of mods for my newest setup and I've run into a problem - a later mod has a master that I've merged, so that individual ESP is not there.
I believe I'm going to need to go into TES5Edit and make those changes, but I haven't a clue how to do it. And I apologize, because my Google-fu is weak and I haven't been able to find a guide.
Any hints?
