In Skyrim, there's supposed to be a massive civil war happening, but in the base game, it doesn't quite give that sense.
Are there any mods available that can make the war feel like it is actually taking place? I don't want to control armies; I just want to see the different factions actively engaged in war with each other, or things like that.
{{Immersive Patrols}} {{Populated Civil War}} and {{Civil War Battlefields}} all add battles or evidence of recent battles. Patrols and CW Battlefields actually both add one in the same part of the pass between Helgen and Ivarstead that yields a very cool scenario with the debris of a battle still being fought.
It's been a while since I used it but iirc {{Open Civil War}} will also allow for cities to change hands whether you're participating or not, you just have to activate the civil war at one of the war maps in the jarls' homes.
A combination of these and something like {{Skyrim Realistic Conquering}} and/or {{Lawbringer}} can be cool too because you can "participate" in that when you clear some dungeons one of the warring factions will take it over, and the roving patrols will occasionally run into the occupied locations.
