I just went all the way to high hrothgar, dropped off kimmek's supplies, and then walked all the way back down before remembering I was going the way of the voice.

I'm honestly amazed at myself,and even walked halfway back up before remembering I could fast travel. Too much immersion, or not enough sleep? It is a mystery.
